Huhtamäki buys US folding carton
pack firm for €23m

Huhtamäki has said that it has strengthened its folding carton packaging business in the US by acquiring folding carton pack firm Ample Industries.

This is the second acquisition in three months for Huhtamaki, the Finland-based packaging manufacturer.

In September, the company announced the acquisition of Paris Packaging, which also makes folding paper cartons.

“We are pleased to announce another acquisition implementing our strategy of profitable growth,” Huhtamäki chief executive Jukka Moisio.

He added: “With Ample Industries, and the previously acquired business of Paris Packaging, we have successfully added a new line of high quality products into our North American foodservice assortment.

“This complementary range extension allows us to serve our customers even better.”

‘Net sales’

Huhtamäki said it bought Ample Industries for €23m ($31m).

The annual net sales of Ample Industries are approximately €45m.

We plan to further increase our presence in the foodservice market in North America,” said North America vice president Clay Dunn.

He added: “In addition to the recently acquired folding carton capabilities we plan to increase our capacity in paper cups and further expand our range with pressed paperboard plates.”
