Model Group halts recycled paper mill due to upgrade

Corrugated specialist Model Group has stopped production at its recycled containerboard mill in Switzerland due to an upgrade.

The firm announced that it will shut its Niedergösgen [Aarepapier] mill for five weeks (3 June to 13 July).

A spokeswoman said: “The firm is upgrading the facility to achieve a bigger capacity and get better quality paper. We expect a 20% increase in capacity with this investment.

“During the rebuild, we will deliver to our customers out of our stock in Niedergösgen and from our sister mill, Turpapier Model, in Weinfelden.”

Model Group said that the investment in a new constant section and a new wire section at Aarepapier will enhance efficiency and the cost-effectiveness of waste paper recycling, and “achieve a greater percentage utilisation of the raw material recoverable paper”.

It added: “This is achieved by more rigorous separation of the recyclable fibrous material and impurities. Moreover, thanks to more constant production this has a positive impact on resources and yields.”
