Westcountry boosts client list by 40% after sales push

Newton Abbot-based packaging manufacturer Westcountry Cases has announced its best period of growth ever in the last year because of a “proactive” marketing campaign.

The firm, who manufacture a wide range of packing cases made from timber, has created seven new jobs and doubled its production area in the last year. It has also invested in a new CNC wood router worth £35,000.

Westcountry Cases managing director Andy Heckford said: “In the past six months alone we have seen a 40% growth in our number of new customers and that is mainly due to a new website and a telemarketing campaign we started in 2010 helping us to attract business from all over the UK.”

A Westcountry Cases spokesman added that it was the first time the firm launched a telemarketing campaign. He said: “Sometimes, if you raise your head above the parapet things happen.”

The company also said that new customers had been attracted from outside the firm’s traditional south west market due to its competitive pricing. It has also completed its first export order to Holland.

“One significant factor is that we have been able to make far more competitive national delivery arrangements, while we continue to use own vehicles for deliveries locally,” said Heckford.

“As most of the news we hear is about job losses it is great to be part of a company where employee numbers are growing.”

Westcountry Cases is currently constructing two big cases to hold two sections of the hull of a frigate being built for the Spanish Navy, and has recently designed some packaging to transport the hull section of a submarine.
