More Promising Future for Plastic Closures in Europe
2008-12-01
A report conducted by Applied Market Information(AMI)revealed that all standard beverage closures in Europe summed up to 64%. Compare with the past four years, the rate has risen up by 9%, and the figure says it is expected to have 4% growth each year by 2012.
Stimulated by initiatives on the reduction of production costs and light weight, the implementation of the closure has been increasing by 9% per year. Roughly 217 billion plastic caps in Europe accounted for €1.5bn in 2007.
AMI suggested the brighter future could rely on the cultivations in still sports and juice-based drinks and the expanding market penetration of one-way PET bottles replacing cans and cartons.
Another booming factor comes from the application of plastic corks in glass bottles which flourishes in plastic beer closures among Eastern Europe
Due to the forthcoming condition of heat stable PET, clarified PP and multilayer containers, plastic caps will be applied in the liquid food sector and some containers for sauces, preserves, baby food and soup.
In the following five years, according to AMI, the focus will be put on innovation and sustainability of plastic closure production, improving the added values of the tiny packaging in terms of functionality, convenience and modernity.
With the careful scrutinizing and some statistic data, it is believed that the plastic caps---new kid on the packaging block---will be promising to further developments and cultivations.
