M&S Pushes to Carton Recycling
2008-12-01
Marks & Spencer(M&S)is phasing out its shelf décor in the liquid food and drink carton sections in an attempt to push packaging recycling(in this case for carton recycling)and help consumers settle the nearest carton recycling spots.
The project has been under the way with the cooperation of M&S and The Alliance for Beverage Cartons and the Environment (ACE UK). “We are urgent to work out the scheme with other main retailers and customers in order that recycling project could be implemented more thoroughly,” said environment manager of Tetra Pak UK and chairman Richard Hands from ACE UK.
Cartons so far have been recycled by 82% of local authorities, and Tetra Pak hopes to reach up to 100% by the end of the year.
Cartons recycled from UK have been shipped to Sweden, where cartons will be made into plasterboard liner by Lafarge, a building materials supplier.
