Dow Packaging and Specialty Plastics is working with a Chinese firm to debut Dow’s PacXpert flexible packaging technology in the Chinese market.

Hunan China Sun Pharmaceutical Machinery Co. Ltd. will bring the PacXpert technology to China.

China Sun is a $95 million manufacturer of pharmaceutical and medical equipment as well as packaging solutions for pharmaceutical and space foods packages.

The publicly listed firm will leverage PacXpert for flexible packaging applications in engine oils, edible oils, rice and detergent.

This marks the second PacXpert license in the Asia Pacific region, after Kyodo Printing in Japan in 2014. It’s also the ninth deal, globally.

“Asia Pacific has the largest regional flexible packaging market size with 38 percent of global market volume, and is also predicted to be the fastest growing market for consumer flexible packaging,” said Mark Saurin, commercial vice president for Dow Packaging and Specialty Plastics Asia Pacific.

“With huge growth potential in this region, we are excited to partner with China Sun to bring PacXpert to the market, and continue to introduce innovative flexible packaging solutions, raising the standards of packaging in China,” Saurin said.

China Sun founder and President Xianghua Liu said, “This collaboration with Dow strengthens our position in the market, and allows us to further explore and expand our opportunities. We are confident that our customers will appreciate the benefits the unique PacXpert flexible packaging technology brings, propelling us to greater success in the industry.”

PacXpert is licensed globally by Dow through an agreement with Smart Bottle Inc.

The lightweight packaging design offers a fitment closure and integrated ergonomic dual handles, enabling precision pouring with no glugging, easy reclosing and convenient carrying. It is shelf stable and can stand upright or on its side once filled, and facilitates the conversion of large rigid plastics containers to portable flexible packages.

Dow said the award-winning PacXpert technology provides multiple environmental benefits by minimizing waste, reducing raw materials and offering a higher product-to-package ratio. It can be used for household, institutional, food service and industrial applications.

Established in Georgia, USA, LVS is provider of label inspection, print inspection, and barcode verification products, solutions, and services for the life sciences and other industries.

The company has experienced rapid growth recently, boosted by its technology which enables companies to meet UDI (Unique Device Identification) legislation and to improve product traceability throughout the manufacturing supply chain.

Scott Summerville, president of Microscan, said: “The leadership team at Microscan has a strong interest in developing and investing in LVS’s technology and products to support the market, which is expanding due to regulatory trends and corporate quality initiatives. We will have the opportunity to accelerate the expansion of LVS products and solutions into key international markets, and to leverage the substantial synergies between LVS and Microscan sales, technology, and operations.”
