Euro Packaging: Anti-bacterial clinical waste dispensing sack

Scooping the top prize is Euro Packaging’s waste dispensing sack, which the company says is the future of refuse and waste sacks in the NHS and medical environments. It’s a clever concept with anti-microbial technology used in ink allowing Euro Packaging to print on a localised region of the sack. The silver iron based additive in the technology has been proven to minimise the spread of hospital bugs such as MRSA and Ecoli. The clinical waste dispensing sack has already been trialled, incorporating a basic print design onto a typical polyethylene sack. The results have been encouraging and Euro Packaging’s aim is to incorporate the sacks into its patent pending Easy Pick dispenser box. This combines “innovative bag folding and packing, box design and removable picking aperture design”. It left the judges very impressed with one suggesting it could benefit the household sector in the future.

Topdental Products: Virofex

Runner-up in the category is Topdental Products for its Viroflex, which has developed a concept for dentists that the judges said was a well designed and executed refill solution. The pack replaces the traditional five litre containers and bulk storage products. Wall mounted, the Viroflex mixes tap water with a pre-dosed cartridge and is claimed to use 72% less waste than a traditional bottle. The trigger bottle is filled with water and the cartridge is dropped into the neck of the bottle, as the trigger is pressed on and screwed down into place. There are some nice attentions to detail with holes on the pack to indicate when it’s time to re-order. “It’s a good development replacing a bulky, awkward container,” said one judge.
