New glass recycling game on Facebook

European consumer group Friends of Glass will be encouraging its Facebook followers to play a pass-the-parcel style virtual game this autumn.

The Facebook game ‘Pass the Bottle’ asks fans to pass on to each other a virtual glass bottle of a favourite drink, taking a virtual sip as they go. When the bottle is empty, the bottle is recycled by the last one in line – who then wins a prize for doing so, according to Friends of Glass.

British Glass head of container affairs Rebecca Cocking said: “Pass the Bottle provides a little fun for our Facebook followers and their friends to enjoy.

“It also carries a serious message that glass is infinitely recyclable, good for the environment and we all can do our bit to make sure our glass bottles and jars are always recycled.”

The game provides links to further information about how consumers can help ensure the glass they recycle is turned into recyclate of the highest quality so it may be used to make new bottles and jars.

Glass artist Duncan Barker-Magowan of Duncans Beads explained: “Pass the Bottle is such a simple game to play with friends – and you might win a prize too. It’s a great way to let your friends know that glass rules.”
