easyFairs packaging event at the NEC opens tomorrow

EasyFairs’ four-in-one packaging show is preparing to open its doors tomorrow for a two-day event at the NEC in Birmingham.

EasyFairs Packaging Innovations, Packtech, Ecopack and Contract Pack are set to showcase a wealth of products and services for the entire packaging supply chain as well as provide a forum to debate key issues.

On day one of the show bioplastics specialist Nuplas is set to present a project to develop what it describes as a second generation of polylactic acid (PLA).

Nuplas founder Peter Reineck will introduce the project in a learnShop seminar that reveals plans to develop “new, customer-led products to help the UK meet EU targets for the adoption of bio-based products”.

Reineck said the there was an opportunity for a plant in the UK to capture up to 20% of a forecast 650,000 tonnes of EU demand for PLA by 2025.

“Detailed discussions with key customers confirmed significant interest in non-GM G2 PLA as a rigid renewable polymer. With investor support, we are now seeking to position the UK as a leader in biorenewable packaging,” said Reineck.

The first day of the show also features the Lions Lair event and closed with the BIG Packaging Debate.
