Packaging business in Eastern Europe and Turkey expected to grow
2008-12-05
A survey conducted in late August shows that, in spite of material prices and transport costs, industry professionals remain positive and investment forecasts stable.

The survey was conducted by EMBALLAGE and partner associations, and EMBALLAGE 2008, the World Packaging Exhibition, will be held in Paris from November 17 to 21.

According to the survey results, Eastern Europe has taken the lead among high-growth export markets for buyers, while Turkey is now considered as an export growth market by packaging manufacturers.

In the medium term (2009-2011), plastics however get the strongest prospects over paper-cardboard -- 57% of responding buyers think they will purchase more plastics.

Biomaterials get more important as sustainable development and eco-design is key factors of innovation.

Food and health-beauty are the leading package consuming sectors, following by the automotive and aeronautic industries.

The French packaging industry generated a turnover of 21 billion euros in 2007, according to the latest figures issued by SESSI (Department of industrial studies and statistics of the Ministry of Economy and Industry).
