Parents are convinced: Baby food should be in glass

Whether porridge or juice – baby food is susceptible to risk and therefore must be especially well packaged. But which material most reassures the consumers? According to a current user survey by the “Aktionsforum Glasverpackung” in collaboration with the family portal “familie.de”, glass is the clear favourite for baby food packaging. 87 percent of the participants indicated that they prefer glass packaging for baby food.

Health and Taste are the main criteria

Baby food packaging plays an important role while shopping. Every third person asked considered packaging to be very important for their purchasing decision; a further 55 percent considered it to be important. Special criteria, such as the optimal protection of nutrients, taste and health can therefore conclusively be said to play an essential role. This is not surprising, as child well-being obviously comes first for parents. The impact of packaging on the environment also has a say. Many parents show responsibility here too, and therefore choose packaging that is recyclable and environmentally friendly.

Clear case: glass meets the criteria
Glass is the clear winner: 87 percent of users indicated that glass is their favourite packaging for baby food. Why the majority of the survey participants picked baby food glass becomes clear with a brief glance at the many positive qualities that they attribute to glass. Four out of five indicated that they consider glass packaging as especially environmentally friendly and recyclable. Around 55 percent judge glass as healthy packaging and at least every second participant (53 percent) is convinced that glass preserves the taste at its best.

Pack safely with glass packaging
Glass is a packaging material that possesses a feature that few any other packaging materials can claim: the packaging material and the content do not affect each other. In the case of baby food packed in glass, valuable vitamins and nutrients are preserved, as the glass acts as a security container. Glass packaging is not only healthy but also 100% recyclable. It is almost exclusively produced with natural raw materials, using an average of 60 per cent of recycled glass. For this reason, glass packaging is the best packaging for both those that would also like to do something good for the environment and those concerned with health.

There is another advantage pointed out by the survey participants that is particularly relevant to this topic: baby food in glass container can be heated practically without decanting the contents. The re-closable container is another criterion in favour of glass. Moreover, the participants are well informed on this subject as baby food is a daily issue for them: more than 50 percent currently have a baby, who is one year old or younger. For parents involved in the survey, glass is their clear-cut favourite where the packaging of baby food is concerned.

Packaging made of glass
Glass packaging retains the taste of drinks, preserves the nutrients of food products and generates the high-value container for perfumes and cosmetics. Besides this, glass provides different types of medicines an absolutely safe form of protection. In short: hardly any other packaging material can be used across so many sectors and in such a versatile way. Glass is not only a valuable and desirable packaging material in terms of its functionality. It is also available in many colours; it can be moulded into individual shapes and helps to create brands. Glass is almost exclusively produced from naturally occurring raw materials – mostly local - and can be 100 percent recycled. It thus protects the environment, climate and health, which is why glass packaging is considered the most sustainable form of packaging available on the market.
