M-real is to increase the price of its coated and uncoated white-top kraftliner grades by £45 a tonne from 20 September as it looks to start negotiations over shorter payment terms.

The paper and packaging firm announced future price increases at the beginning of the month as it published results for the second quarter of the year.

In a brief statement today, M-real said: "Driven by strong demand and increased transportation costs, M-real is raising the price of all Kemiart white-top kraftliner grades for invoicing from 20 September onwards."

Prices will increase by £45 per tonne in the UK and EUR50 per tonne in continental Europe.

In the statement, M-real also revealed it would "start negotiations with its customers regarding shorter payment terms".

In June,
kraftliner prices went up by £50 a tonne following a similar increase in March.
