Xeikon, a division of Punch Graphix and pioneer of the first digital colour presses, has  announced that Flexiket, a leading Denmark-based label printer, has expanded its production capabilities by acquiring another Xeikon digital press, the Xeikon 3300. Flexiket has been a leader in self-adhesive label printing for nearly 40 years. As their business has grown over the last decade, the company has steadily relied on Xeikon digital presses to be a production cornerstone of its operation. The new Xeikon 3300 digital label press was a logical choice when Flexiket sought to enter into the newest generation within digital printing.

Increased productivity and brand consistent quality
Like all Xeikon presses, the Xeikon 3300 uses dry toner electrophotographic-based imaging technology, allowing utilization of conventional substrates with no coating or pre-treatment needed. Thanks to its quick and easy set up, a fully integrated digital workflow and seamless compatibility with any finishing equipment, the turnaround time per job is considerably reduced, enabling more short or medium-run jobs to be produced per shift than on any conventional offset or flexo press.

“Our new Xeikon 3300 press gives us several distinct advantages which translate directly into customer benefits,” says Bjarne Svensson, Production Manager, Flexiket. “The combination of 1200-dpi, 4-bit variable dot density imaging, extended gamut spot colours, and an automated quality control system ensures absolutely consistent brand reproduction. We have worked with Xeikon presses for 10 years and are still impressed by the strengths of their technology, customer support and service. Therefore we decided to reinvested in the Xeikon 3300 to handle our prime label business.”

Filip Weymans, Business Development Manager, Labels & Packaging at Xeikon, comments: “At Xeikon, we’ve always strived to position our systems at the high end of the digital printing market, introducing technology and productivity innovations that provide true business-enhancing benefits for our customers. We are happy to see that Flexiket, one of our long-term customers, has again confirmed its trust in our company and our solutions.”

Benchmark in digital printing with QA-I toner for food packaging
The Xeikon 3300, which received the prestigious Intertech Technology Award in 2009, offers true 1200 dpi output resolution at four bits per spot. With a top speed of 19.2 meters per minute and a monthly duty cycle of 700,000 meters, the Xeikon 3300 is extremely productive and designed to operate 24 hours a day. It includes five colour stations: four for standard process colours and a fifth station for spot colours. The spot colours can be used for gamut expansion or for reproducing specific brand elements. The fifth colour station can also enable printing on transparent films with Xeikon’s one-pass opaque white toner, and for security printing with special security toner.

The Xeikon web-based (rotary) printing technology and variable repeat length enable labels of any size to be produced in multiple colours without a productivity penalty. The Xeikon 3300 also makes finishing much easier by allowing customers to make adjustments in label positioning, regardless of size, to match finishing equipment requirements. It also allows labels with variable formats and sizes to be printed in the same run, reducing waste and increasing productivity.

The Xeikon 3300 press uses Xeikon QA-I toner, which has been developed specifically for the packaging and label market, and emits no VOCs or other hazardous substances. In addition to complying with the FDA regulations for direct and indirect food contact applications, the printed output of the Xeikon 3300 is fully recyclable.
