Amcor completes Ball acquisition

Amcor has completed its acquisition of Ball Corporation's Plastic Packaging Americas (BPPA) division for $280m.

The deal was announced in June and has now been completed following the Hart-Scott-Rodino waiting period in the US.

Five manufacturing plants that produce PET bottles and performs and polypropylene bottles are included in the deal.

The plastic business employs some 1,000 staff and generated sales of $635m in 2009.

The acquisition expands Amcor's diversified products division that targets healthcare, pharmaceuticals, personal care, food and distilled spirits.

Amcor announced it was buying part of the Alcan Packaging business and last month divested the Tobepal operation in Spain as part of the regulatory requirements for that acquisition.
